John Bary

It would be fair to say John was born and bred into horse racing. With his Great Great Grandfather George Gatonby Stead one of the founding fathers of the Canterbury Jockey Club, Great Grandfather Wilfred Gatonby Stead owner of 1916 Melbourne Cup winner Sasanof and Great Uncle Bob Stead the stud master of the famous Sasanof Stud in Hastings, it was inevitable John would find his way into the racing industry.

Racing Manager

Who would have thought that meeting an ex professional polo player on the Hastings Golf Course fifteen years ago would turn into the ride it has become.

From buying three horses at the Karaka Yearling Sales in 2007 with John and his long-time friend and mentor Ivan Grieve, to working as Business Development Manager at Hawke’s Bay Racing and now Racing Manager for John… it’s been a ride to remember.
